Monitor View
The Monitor view displays live feeds from all connected cameras in a configurable grid layout. It's the first thing you see when you open Aegis AI and serves as your real-time security dashboard.
Grid Layouts
Click the layout selector in the toolbar to choose a grid arrangement:
| Layout | Grid | Max Cameras Visible | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto | Adjusts to camera count | ∞ (paginated) | General use — automatically picks the best grid |
| 1×1 | Single camera, full screen | 1 | Focused monitoring of one camera |
| 2×2 | 2 columns, 2 rows | 4 | Small setups, apartment monitoring |
| 3×3 | 3 columns, 3 rows | 9 | Medium setups, home monitoring |
| 4×4 | 4 columns, 4 rows | 16 | Large setups, business monitoring |
| 1+5 | 1 large + 5 small | 6 | One priority camera with secondary views |
| 2+8 | 2 large + 8 small | 10 | Two priority cameras with full coverage |
| 1+12 | 1 large + 12 small | 13 | One priority camera with maximum secondary grid |
In Auto mode, the grid automatically adjusts columns and rows to fit all cameras. For all fixed layouts, cameras that exceed the visible count are accessible through pagination.
Choosing a Layout
- Auto works best for most users — it adapts as you add or remove cameras
- 1+5 and 2+8 are great for setups where one or two cameras are more important (e.g., front door and driveway) while keeping secondary views visible
- 1×1 is ideal when you want to focus on a specific camera temporarily — perhaps reviewing a motion event in detail
Pagination
When you have more cameras than the selected layout can display, page controls appear:
- ← Previous page
- → Next page
- Page number indicator (e.g. "2 / 3")
Cameras that don't fit on the current page are still recording and being analyzed — they're just not visible in the grid at that moment. All cameras remain active regardless of which page you're viewing.
Drag-and-Drop Reordering
Drag camera tiles to rearrange their position in the grid. This lets you prioritize important cameras:
- Grab a tile by clicking and holding on it
- Drag it to the desired position
- Drop it — the other tiles shift to make room
- Persistent — the new order stays the same across sessions and app restarts
This is especially useful with asymmetric layouts (1+5, 2+8, 1+12) where the first position is the large tile. Drag your most important camera to the first position to give it the most screen space.
Camera Tiles
Each tile shows:
- Thumbnail — latest frame from the camera, refreshed periodically
- Camera name — overlay at the bottom of the tile
- Status indicator — online (green pulsing dot) or offline (red dot)
- Camera type badge — shows the source type: RTSP, Blink, Ring, Webcam, etc.
Interacting with Tiles
Click a tile to open the camera's feed in a larger view or navigate to clip playback for that camera.
Understanding Status Indicators
| Indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green pulsing dot | Camera is online and actively streaming or capturing |
| Red dot | Camera is offline or unreachable |
| Gray dot | Camera is paused or disabled |
| "Live" badge | Camera is currently streaming in real-time |
Privacy Overlay
When Blind Mode is active for a camera, the live feed is hidden behind a privacy overlay. The camera still records and the AI still analyzes frames, but the visual feed is not displayed on screen.
This is useful when:
- You want AI analysis without anyone in the room seeing the feed
- You're monitoring a private area (e.g., baby's room) but don't want visitors to see it
- You want to demonstrate the system without showing footage
Toggle blind mode from the camera's context menu or from ⚙️ Settings → System → Privacy. See Privacy Settings for more details.
Skills Overlays
When skills are running, they can overlay visual data on camera tiles in the Monitor view:
| Skill | Overlay |
|---|---|
| YOLO Detection | Colored bounding boxes around detected objects with class labels and confidence scores |
| Depth Estimation | Colorized depth map overlay (heat map style) showing near/far object distances |
| SAM2 Segmentation | Pixel-level segmentation masks on selected objects |
Skill overlays are rendered directly on top of the camera feed, providing real-time visual feedback about what the AI is detecting.
Empty Monitor State
When no cameras are added, the Monitor view displays a helpful empty state with animated visuals and a prompt to add your first camera. Follow the cameras setup guide to get started.
