Ring Cameras

Connect your Ring cameras to Aegis for AI-powered scene understanding on your existing Ring setup.

  1. Open ⚙️ Settings → expand Cameras → click Security Cameras
  2. Select the Ring tab
  3. Ring accounts are linked via the Ring mobile app integration
  4. Once linked, a green Linked Account banner appears showing your email

If your account isn't linked yet, you'll see a blue info box explaining the mobile app integration process.

Managing Ring Cameras

Once connected, the settings page shows:

Linked Account Banner

→ Green banner with your email address → Refresh button — re-syncs camera list and status from Ring → Unlink button — removes the account (with confirmation dialog: "Are you sure you want to unlink the Ring account for user@email.com?")

Unlinking removes: → Ring email from storage → Refresh and auth tokens → All Ring cameras from the Monitor grid

Video Previews and Thumbnails

Ring camera clips appear in your Timeline with video preview thumbnails. Aegis generates these using FFmpeg:

→ Thumbnails are extracted at the 1-second mark of each clip → Preview quality: 320×240 (high quality) → Stored locally at ~/.aegis-ai/media/thumbnails/

Regenerating Thumbnails

If timeline clips show blank or missing thumbnails:

  1. Go to Ring Camera settings
  2. Under Ring Video Previews, click Fix Previews
  3. Aegis scans for clips that have video files but missing preview images
  4. Missing thumbnails are regenerated automatically
  5. A success message confirms how many thumbnails were fixed

Thumbnail regeneration requires FFmpeg. Aegis checks for FFmpeg availability and shows the status on the settings page.

Camera Status Indicators

The settings page shows real-time status:

IndicatorMeaning
Thumbnail GenerationWhether FFmpeg is available for creating previews
Video ProcessingWhether active processing is running
Preview QualityCurrent resolution setting (320×240 default)

Troubleshooting

Missing thumbnails after linking

Click Fix Previews in Ring Camera settings. This regenerates thumbnails from existing video files.

"No authentication token available"

Your Ring session may have expired. Unlink and re-link your account via the mobile app integration.

Ring cameras not showing in Monitor

→ Click Refresh in the Ring settings → Verify cameras are online in the official Ring app → Check that your Ring subscription is active

Thumbnail generation fails

→ Ensure FFmpeg is installed on your system → Check the Thumbnail Generation status indicator in settings → Verify that video files exist in ~/.aegis-ai/media/
