Memory

The Memory tab shows what the agent has learned and remembered about you, your home, and your preferences. Memory is what transforms Aegis from a generic AI into a personalized security assistant that knows your family, routines, and environment.

Open via ⚙️ Settings → Persona → Memory.


How Memory Changes Everything

Without memory, every conversation starts from scratch. The agent sees "a person at the front door" and that's all it knows.

With memory, the same event becomes: "Sarah just got home 20 minutes late. She usually arrives at 5:30pm. Her blue Honda is in the driveway."

Memory gives the agent:

  • Identity awareness — know who family members, neighbors, and regular visitors are
  • Routine understanding — know what's normal for different times of day
  • Contextual alerts — distinguish between "Mom arriving home" and "unknown person at the door"
  • Personalized responses — answer questions with context ("That's the FedEx driver — they've been here three times this week")

Memory Files

Memories are stored as categorized text files. The file list shows:

  • File path — category and filename (e.g., family/members.txt, routines/daily.txt)
  • Size — how much data is stored
  • Modified — when the memory was last updated

Click a file to view its contents (up to 100 lines are displayed).

Common Memory Categories

Adding Memories

Click Add Memory to manually teach the agent something:

  1. Enter a Category (e.g. family, routines, preferences)
  2. Enter the Content — what you want the agent to remember
  3. Click Save

What Makes a Good Memory

Specific and actionable:

  • "Mom usually arrives home around 5:30pm. She drives a blue Honda Civic. If she's not home by 7pm, that's unusual."
  • "The UPS driver parks on the street and walks packages to the porch. Don't alert for their brown truck."
  • "The backyard camera picks up the neighbor's tree swaying in the wind — this is normal motion, not an intruder."

Too vague to be useful:

  • "I have a family"
  • "Cars park near my house"
  • "There's a tree"

Automatic Memory

The agent can also be instructed to save memories itself during conversations. If you tell the agent "Remember that my neighbor Mark walks his dog past the driveway twice a day", it uses the Memory Write tool to store this information automatically. You can enable or disable this capability in the Toolbox settings.


Deleting Memories

Individual memory files can be deleted from the file list. Click the delete button next to any file to remove it permanently. This is useful when:

  • Information has changed (new vehicle, different routine)
  • The agent learned something incorrect
  • You want to reset the agent's understanding of a topic

How Memory Is Used

The agent loads relevant memory files into its context when responding to questions and analyzing events. Here's how it works in practice:

Memory makes the difference between a system that reports raw observations and one that genuinely understands your world.


Tips for Building Effective Memory

  1. Start with family — add names, descriptions, and vehicles for everyone who lives in the house
  2. Add routines gradually — as you notice the agent alerting for routine events, teach it what's normal
  3. Be specific about vehicles — color, make, and model help the agent distinguish between known and unknown cars
  4. Include schedules — delivery times, school bus arrivals, and work schedules help the agent set expectations
  5. Update regularly — memory is most effective when it reflects your current situation
  6. Use the agent — tell the agent things in conversation and let it write memories automatically
