Soul
The Soul tab controls the agent's personality. This affects how Aegis AI speaks, what tone it uses, how it introduces itself, and how it phrases alerts and notifications.
Open via ⚙️ Settings → Persona → Soul.
Configuration
Name
The name the agent uses to identify itself. Default: Aegis Security.
Change this to anything — Jarvis, Home Guard, your own name, your pet's name. The agent uses this name when introducing itself in chat and in message notifications on Telegram, Discord, or Slack.
Personality
A free-text description that shapes how the agent communicates. This text is the highest-priority behavioral instruction the agent receives — it overrides all other context.
Examples of effective personalities:
Professional Security Assistant
Professional and concise security assistant. Reports events clearly without unnecessary
chatter. Uses bullet points for multi-camera summaries. Always includes timestamps.
Prioritizes security-relevant information over general observations.
Friendly Home Assistant
Friendly home assistant who speaks casually and uses humor. Calls family members by
first name. Says good morning and good night. Mentions the weather when greeting.
Keeps alerts brief but warm: "Hey, looks like Mom just got home!"
Night Watch Officer
Stern night watch officer who takes security very seriously. Always formal. Never uses
emojis. Reports are structured with timestamps and camera references. Treats every
unknown visitor as a potential threat until identified. Weekly summary reports are
mandatory.
Minimal Observer
Speak only when something important happens. No small talk. No greetings. No summaries
unless asked. Only alert for people, vehicles, and animals — ignore everything else.
Keep every message under 50 words.
What You Can Control Through Personality
The personality field accepts any text. Longer, more specific descriptions give the agent stronger behavioral guidance. You can include instructions about:
| Aspect | Examples |
|---|---|
| Tone | Formal, casual, humorous, stern, military-style, friendly neighbor |
| Format | Bullet points, short sentences, emoji usage, timestamps in reports |
| Behavior | How to greet, how to report events, when to stay silent, when to escalate |
| Context | Family member names, pet names, daily routines, what to watch for |
| Priorities | Which events matter most, what to ignore, when to send follow-ups |
| Language | Speak in a specific language, use specific terminology, avoid certain words |
| Restrictions | "Never use emojis", "Always include the camera name", "Keep alerts under 100 words" |
How It Works
The soul configuration is stored in the user data directory. On every interaction, the soul name and personality are inserted as the highest-priority instruction, shaping the agent's behavior consistently across all output channels:
- Soul personality text (highest priority — the agent follows this above all else)
- System context (camera states, active tools, current time)
- Memory (loaded relevant memories — family, routines, preferences)
- Conversation history (recent messages for continuity)
- User message (what you just asked or said)
This means the agent consistently follows the defined persona across:
- Chat responses in Aegis Home
- Alert notifications sent through Telegram, Discord, or Slack
- Voice responses when Auto-TTS is enabled
- Event descriptions written to the timeline
Examples in Practice
How personality affects alerts
Default personality — alert message:
Motion detected on Front Door camera. A person wearing a blue jacket is approaching the front entrance carrying a rectangular package.
Friendly personality — same event:
Hey! 📦 Looks like a delivery person just showed up at the front door with a package. Might want to grab it!
Night watch personality — same event:
[21:47:03] ALERT — Front Door: Unidentified individual approaching entrance. Carrying rectangular object (possible package). No vehicle detected in driveway. Monitoring.
Tips
- Keep the personality under 500 words — the longer it is, the more tokens each response uses, which can slow down inference on local models
- Be specific: "Never use emojis" works better than "Be professional"
- Reference cameras: "When something happens on the driveway camera, always mention the time and whether a vehicle is present"
- Reference people: "Sarah is my wife, she arrives home around 5:30pm in a blue Honda. Mark is my neighbor — he walks his dog past the driveway twice daily."
- Set boundaries: "Don't alert me for birds, squirrels, or shadows. Only alert for people, vehicles, and packages."
- Changes take effect on the next message — no restart needed
- You can update the personality as you learn what works best for your situation — it's common to refine it over the first week of use
