Webcam & Mobile Devices

Aegis AI can use your computer's webcam, USB cameras, or desktop capture as monitoring sources.

Open via ⚙️ Settings → Cameras → Webcam (Builtin & USB).

Adding a Webcam​

The Webcam drawer lists all detected camera devices on your system.

  1. Click a device to select it. A live native preview appears directly in the drawer.
  2. Review the preview and adjust settings.
  3. Click Add Camera to add it to the Monitor grid.

The mirror toggle is shown only for webcam sources (not desktop capture).

Desktop Capture​

Switch the source type to Desktop to capture a screen or window.

  1. Select a screen or window from the device list.
  2. Preview appears.
  3. Click Add Camera to start monitoring.

Desktop capture does not have a mirror toggle.

Managing Added Cameras​

After adding, webcams appear in a Added Webcams section in the drawer:

  • Each entry shows the device name, resolution, frame rate, and a Live status indicator
  • Click the trash icon to remove the camera (stops capture and removes from Monitor grid)

How It Works​

When you add a webcam or desktop source:

  1. Aegis requests camera access with the configured resolution and frame rate
  2. Frames are captured and stored
  3. The VLM analyzes captures according to Video Analysis settings
  4. Results appear in the Timeline and are available to the agent

Mobile Phone as Camera​

To use a mobile phone as a security camera:

  1. Install a camera app that creates an RTSP stream (e.g. IP Webcam for Android, Larix Broadcaster for iOS)
  2. Start the stream on the phone
  3. Add the RTSP URL as a LAN Camera using the manual RTSP method

The phone and computer must be on the same network.
